There are many devices which can be used to store or write data in your computer system. The options include hard drives, USB/Firewire storage devices, CD writers and DVD writers. Hard drives are a very essential (and delicate) piece of custom tin can  equipment and are a standard feature on most computers. CD writers are also very common. USB/Firewire storage devices and DVD writers are currently getting more popular with consumers.

This article will give you some tips on selecting proper data storage devices for your PC.Hard DrivesFirst, let's cover hard drives. We'll look at some hard drive terms like ATA and SCSI, as well as cover the factors to consider when buying a new drive.

SATA allows transfer speeds of up to 150 MBs while PATA gives up to 133 MBs. However, to use SATA, you'll need a Serial ATA controller, a SATA drive and a SATA power cable. The speed difference between PATA and SATA is also not significant unless you have a high-end SATA drive. The SCSI standard is a very fast hard drive standard used for professional computer systems which demand extremely fast data access. SCSI drives provide an access time of about 9.5ms - which I feel is really not needed for average home use.

Disk Space vs. Price: An important factor to consider is the disk space versus price ratio. When you look at the 30 GB, 40 GB and 80 GBPATA hard drives, you'll find they are very close in price. If you don't mind paying an extra $20 or so, I'd say go for the maximum disk space you can get! If you do a lot of graphics or video editing, you may want to consider larger drives like the Seagate 160 GB hard drive. For the average home user, however, 40 GB to 80 GB of disk space is plenty.

Drive Speed: If data access speed is important to you, you can go for faster SATA drives or SCSI drives. But remember that these drives come at a price premium and may not be necessary for average home use. Another option is to use a RAID setup where multiple hard disks are used to gain drive performance and/or data integrity.

CD writers are practically standard issue on all PCs these days. Prices are ridiculously cheap, so there's no reason not to get one, unless you prefer a DVD writer.  Drive Speed: For CD writers, you should generally look for a 40X record speed or faster. Anything slower will cost you a lot of time burning CDs.

Internal or External: You can choose between an internal or external CD writer. Internal drives are best suited for desktop PCs and are the least expensive option. If you want portability and don't mind paying a little more, you can get a FireWire or USB 2.0 external CD-RW drive.

DVD writers are the newest rage in the consumer data storage market. They let you store up to 4.7GB on a single disc several times the amount of on a CD-RW disc. So let's look at some factors to consider when purchasing a new DVD drive.  Drive Speed: One factor to consider when buying DVD writers is drive speed. Most DVD-R drives write at 8X, with some older models supporting only 4X. Personally, I don't think there is significant speed difference between a 8X and 4X drive - so don't spend extra money unnecessarily if you don't have to.

Internal or External You can choose between an internal or external DVD writer. Internal drives are cheaper but it also means you need to deal with the installation hassle and non-portability. External DVD writers come with Firewire or USB 2.0 interfaces and may well be a better choice if you need to move your data around a lot.

To purchase a good storage device, be it a hard drive, CD writer or DVD writer, you need to consider what price you're willing to pay for a given set of features. In my opinion, the DVD burner is fast becoming an essential item in the average home user's PC. If you're building a new computer, you should definitely consider buying a DVD writer on top of your standard hard drive.

If you want to learn how to build your own computer or troubleshoot general PC problems, you should check out this computer training video. Besides showing you the exact steps for installing new hardware components, this video provides important tips for repairing and upgrading your PC. These tips include little gems like how to create boot disks, configure your BIOs or format a hard drive.

You've just settled down in bed and are twenty minutes into Letterman when you hear it: a light scratching overhead, accompanied by a squeak here and a squeal there.  You assume that it's the wind making strange noises (after all, it is windy tonight!), or perhaps the house is just settling (you do live in an older home, so it would make sense...).  Maybe the sounds are just the result of an overactive imagination.  You hope!

Of course, you just can't get around the obvious conclusion - you have company.  Whether it's a bird, a bat, a squirrel, or an entire family of mice, there's something up there.  Given that you've had recurrent rodent problems, the latter option is probably the safest bet. However, how can you be sure what type of animal you're dealing with - assuming that you even have unwelcome visitors at all?  Before you can evict them, you need to know who 'they? are.

Above all else, your first step is to inspect your home for signs of mice.  Different problems call for different solutions; if your visitors are actually squirrels instead of mice, you'll need to develop a different strategy. When canvassing your home, keep an eye out for these seven telltale signs:

1.  Droppings and urine

Mouse droppings resemble a grain of rice; they are approximately the same size, but are black in color.  Mice will not generally travel across open spaces, so you're more likely to find droppings along walls, pipes, and beams, as well as in storage areas and next to objects.  ?Urine pillars? are less common; they consist of mounds of grease, urine, and dirt.  You can also use a blacklight to find individual urine droppings.

2.  Chew marks

Look for tooth marks and wood shavings (similar in consistency to sawdust) around doors, baseboards, and cabinets.  Marks on food containers can also be a clue that you have company.

3.  Grease marks

When traveling China Wholesale Custom Tin Ashtrays alongside pipes, beams, and walls, mice may leave greasy smear marks, as dirt and oil from their fur rubs off onto the surfaces.

4.  Tracks

Footprints and tail marks on dirty, dusty, or muddy surfaces can indicate activity.  If you suspect that mice have taken up residence in an otherwise impeccably clean area of your house, lay down a sprinkling of talc to catch them in the act.

5.  Nests

Mice construct nests of shredded paper and similar debris; check attics, basements, garages, storage areas, closets, and other dark, enclosed places for nests or 'stolen? materials.

6.  Sounds

You're more likely to hear squeaks and squawks at night, when the house is quiet and your guests are active.

7.  Sightings

It's not uncommon to see mice during the day; although they are largely nocturnal, they do move about in daylight.

Now that you're certain that you're dealing with mice, it's time to start strategizing.  Your plan of attack will actually come in three phases: first you need to clean up the messes you found; next, you must trap and release your unwelcome visitors; and finally, you'll mouse-proof your house so they can't get back in (and wouldn't want to, even if they could!).  Good luck!

You can't make huge changes around a rented house/apartment but this does not mean you lose heart. The trick is in knowing that you can make temporary changes and changes that are small. Not only will this be affordable but also keep your landlord happy. Before you go out and buy decorating items for your home, see what you can do with the things you already have. If you do buy other items, see to it that they are things that will last, can be used to decorate in other houses (if you move) and they go easy on your wallet.

If you are unsure of certain changes you would like to make ? will the landlord approve or not variety ? then its best to get these ideas clarified before implementing them. Here are a few ways in which you can decorate your home without indulging in painting and loud banging.

Since in most rented houses you are not allowed to paint the walls, try a colorful rug that you can hang. Rugs of neutral 36pcs Color Pencil Tin Metal Case colors can be used to hide dirty flooring or ragged/unflattering carpeting. Use cotton covers for your sofa in bright colors or use white if you want to make the room look bigger. Also throw in some cushions in different colors around the sitting area and bedrooms.

Use table lamps placed at strategic points to enhance the lighting in various rooms. Candle holders or just fancy candles, tabletop fountains, art pieces etc. can also be used to decorate.Use colorful and varied patterns of curtains or panels for windows; colorful dishtowels and bath towels, fancy soap dishes and delicate vases with fresh flowers for the kitchen and bathrooms will add to the finer details making the rooms look bright.

If your landlord is particular about not nailing the walls, then lean huge mirrors against it to make the room look bigger. Paint the sides of the mirror or frame if it is bare. Small photo frames and other artwork can be placed on tables and mantel tops.Fixtures and doorknobs can be replaced with your own as these can be reversed while vacating. But if you are unsure of this, get it checked with the landlord.

Put skirts or decorative screens around the sinks: not only will you be covering the area underneath but it can also double as storage space for your mops, brooms or other cleaning items. Shine up your taps and faucets if needed.Trunks painted or decorated by you or the kids can be placed at the end of beds for more storage space.

There are many things you can do to decorate a home, rented or own, without making permanent changes. Think about your taste and go for that look in your house. Do not overdo anything to the point of garishness. Do not forget that no matter how short the period of your tenancy is this is your living space. Put in some time, effort and money to make the house your home.

In a fit of Martha Stewart-induced organizing frenzy you've completely emptied your cluttered bedroom closet. So now what?

Before you return all those clothes and custom tin pencil case other items to the closet? Have you initiated the S.P.A.C.E. program? Consider following the 5 simple steps listed below to help you de-clutter, organize and get the most out of your now empty closet.

Sort your clothes/belongings into three piles or boxes:

1.To Keep 2.To Donate 3.To Trash

Be ruthless. (You have never and will never wear that sweater that great-aunt Bessie made you 8 years ago.) Be honest. (The last time those jeans fit President Carter was in office!) And sort without hesitation. (Why exactly have you kept your old high school marching band uniform?) Keep what you actually use and wear, donate what you can, and toss the rest.

Purge your sorted piles to rid yourself of everything except those items you  (meaning you've worn it more than twice in the past year). There may be a multitude of reasons why you don't wear something-- doesn't fit, out of style, dislike the color, scratchy fabric? It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter if the article of clothing is old or new, expensive or cheap, a gift from a relative or picked up from the lost-and-found box. The bottom line is that if you don't wear it then it's stealing valuable space. If the item is still usable, donate it to charity-- Goodwill or the Salvation Army. If it's too far gone, toss it in the dumpster? today!

Assign everything to a particular place/storage area. When items have a storage area they have a greater tendency to find their proper home rather than end up on the living room floor or in the infamous ?junk drawer?. The key to maintaining organization is to make it convenient to put things away in their proper place. It will always be easier in the short run to just drop what you're using on the nearest shelf, but what about finding it  the next time? The 10 seconds you save now by not returning the item to its proper place will cost you 10 very frustrating minutes searching for it later.

Containerize and label everything you can. That may mean placing items in actually containers (see-thru plastic is best for most items) or it may mean, as mentioned above, simply designating a space for each item or type of item. Always try to put complimentary or like items together. For example-- all pants on one hanging rod, all your make-up in one drawer, your red belt in the same cubby as your red shoes, etc. Needing something and then finding it quickly because it's right where it belongs can be a surprisingly gratifying experience.

Evaluate your closet and your method of keeping it organized at regular intervals in the future. Is your system working for you-- 1 month, 6 months, 12 months later? If not, you can change yourself and your habits, or you can modify your system to best work with your personality. When possible, modify your system to match who you really are. You'll be far more organized and happy in the long run, and that, of course, was the ultimate goal to begin with.
